How We Clean Your Wheelie Bins
Introduction
We quite often get asked how and what do you use to clean your wheelie bins? We put this down to our results are amazingly good and people just want to know. So I thought it was about time that I wrote an article on how we do it.
In this post I’m going to tell you exactly how we clean a bin and the products we use.
I will not bore you with the technical details of how our software works but basically when you sign up for a recurring bin clean you get entered into our works program and from there the bin cleaning cogs start turning.
A nice little touch with our systems is that when you are booked in for a wheelie bin clean whether it’s just a one off or a recurring job you will recieve a text the day before reminding you what bins will be cleaned. This is very useful because it’s also a way of remebering what bins are being emptied that day.
Day Start
At the beginning of the day it’s very important (to us) that the vehicle is ready and safe to go. We have a set of proceedures that outlines several pre start checks ranging from, securing the trailer to the ute and ensuring there is enough cleaning products aboard.
After that we have a quick check of the customers booked in for that day to make sure there are no special requests.
Then we are set to go. Wearing our Trademutt work shirts we are all motivated to get your bins clean.
First Customer
When we arrive on site we like to spray the bins with our Enyme cleaner to marinade the dirt and grim while we set up the trailer.
Setting up the bin cleaning trailer
This is where the funs starts. Our customised wheelie bin cleaning trailer is set up in such a way that it’s safe and easy to use.
The water jet hose is positioned on the passenger side sothat it can only be pulled off at the kerb side of the trailer. This means that we are not pulling out the hose into the traffic. We pull out enough length to reach around the back of the trailer so we can clean the outside and bottom of the wheelie bins.
The Bin Cleaning Trailer
The key to cleaning your bins as well as we do is all about the trailer and products we use.
Our bin cleaning trailer is a custom built machine made in Queensland Australia. It was developed from years of bin cleaning here in Australia and the UK.
One of the 1st thing our new customers ask is do we need to connect to their water and power?
Answer: We are completely self-sufficient and do not need to utilise any of your equipment, water or power.
We have a powerful 4000 psi water pump that is used to initially clean the bin, both inside and outside. This goes through our revolutionary 5 filter system to our 250 litre water tank.
The Water Tank
We only use recycled water for cleaning wheelie bins and this in turn is reused through out the day.
We can get approx. 60 to 100 bins cleaned on one tank but this depends on the state of the bins. Most of our recurring bin cleans are pretty clean and so we get more bins cleaned.
One off bin cleans quite often mean that that are quite dirty and so require more water and contaminate the recycle water a lot quicker.
Cleaning The Bins
We work with a chemist in Australia that has develped a natural enzyme that is a unique liquid blend, 100% biodegradeable and environmentally friendly and pet safe.
It contains fermented natural products, multi nutrients and biodegradable surfactants specifically formulated to eliminate organic waste material rapidly and safely. It contains no harmful chemicals, no added live bacteria and has a pleasant herbal smell.
It breaks down fats, oils, grease and sludge in your bins (also can be used in septic tanks, grease traps, effluent ponds, pipes and drains). It is also very effective as a commercial, industrial and domestic cleaning product suitable for carpets, floors and tiled surfaces.
It rapidly eliminates odours making it effective in numerous odour control applications.
The enymes breaks down the complex waste molecules into progressively smaller and less complex elements which in turn act as a food source for the existing bacteria present in the system. The bacteria then multiply and accelerate the digestion of the waste material.
The surfactant present in Enzymate helps to reduce the fatty particle size and breaks apart surface accumulation of oily materials. The surfactant itself also becomes a food source.
- For really bad bins we spray and let it sit for a few minutes
- The presure washer then cleans off the dirt and grim
- We spay with another formular (made from the same enzymes) to disenfect and deodorise the wheelie bin
- We need we also spray the bin area too.
What We Do With The Waste
It’s really important to Coastal Bin Busters that the waste is disposed properly. Apart from the legal requirements we feel that we have a moral obligation to ensure we do not contaminate the local environment.
Sometimes a bin has rubbish left in it after the council have emptied it and so if it isn’t too much we actually empty it and take it to the local tip to dispose of properly.
The smaller bits of waste left in the bin is captured and collected at the first filtration level where we can use a small brush to clean up afterwards.
No rubbish is left on site!
At the end of the day or when the water of the tank has been too contaiminated we work with other local businesses to dispose of the water legally into the sewer system.
Local council authorities have approved the process as long as we ensue that no chemicals are being dipsosed into the sewer system.
Clean Up
When the bins have been cleaned we drop them back to the curb or if you have subscribed to our Bin Valet service we take them back to the bin location for that property.
Cleaning the filters is a priority during clean up as these help protect the water pump and also stops any build up of bin juice on the trailer.
The trailer is then refuelled and cleaned down ready for the next day. Any maintenance that is needed is done and recorded for our records, this ensures that the bin trailer is fully operational.
