Byron Bay

Byron Bay is known around the world as a holiday destination on the east coast of Australia. It is located on the most eastern point of Australia (though I have heard Ballina locals say that Flat Rock is the most easterly!)

With the Byron Shire consisting of 14,000 homes and growing means more people and more rubbish. Most homes generally have 3 wheelie bins. A red bin for general waste, a yellow bin for recyclables and a green one for organics. Simple maths shows us that there are potentially 42,000 wheelie bins. Coastal Bin Busters have cleaned 1,000s of bins and estimate on average each bin holds approximately 40-60 kg. That’s a staggering 1,700 tonnes of household waste generated each fortnight. Couple these numbers with the year round warm climate you have the perfect recipe for a smelly maggot ridden town.
